Maintaining and managing spa water sanitation and chemistry is important to prevent the spread of bacteria and look after the spa structure itself. As well as the use of a pump and filter, lithium hypochlorite is used as a primary sanitizer. These are often supplemented with an ozone generator and silver and copper ion generator. It is important to speak to your spa supplier about suitable ways to santitize and maintain your spa, as each spa has different specific requirements.

To periodically remove anyforeign particles ,’shocking’ the spa is recommended. This can be done with a product called Spa-Lite or a large dose of granulated chlorine. The spa should not be used for a certain period of time after starting the shock treatment, typically 4 to 8 hours . This will prevent irritation to the skin and body, and ensure that the sanitation process is correctly performed.

Water chemistry maintenance involves keeping the pH, alkalinity and mps levels within acceptable margins. After purchasing a spa, it is important to understand the chemistry side of maintaining your spa. One of our trained professionals will assist and run through everything that you need to know so that you acquire a knowledge and understanding of your spa. Problems with the water chemistry whether minor or major can disrupt your water balance or may cause other problems with your spa.

To begin your spa cleaning process, please use a product like Swirl Away in your existing water before draining the spa. Swirl away is available at Spa Factory Seconds and will thoroughly clean all body fats and oils from your pipes . It is then important to drain your existing water from the spa. This is something you should do every 3-6 months – drain, clean and refill. It will increase the longevity of your spa, and ensure that it is clean and fresh all year round.

When cleaning an acrylic spasurface, use non-soap based products, such as methylated spirits. These cleaners are generally available at large supermarkets, and home hardware stores. Avoid harsh products like car cleaners, glass cleaners, or any soap or ammonia based degreasers. These products can interfere with the water chemistry of your spa.

Make sure that you clean your spa or hot tub cover, as these also need to be maintained and protected from the elements. It is recommended that you use 303 Aerospace protectant which is available from Spa Factory Seconds. This will keeps your spa and cover hygienic and clean.
