Spa Glossary

Algae: Small plant life which rarely grows in spa water. Often green, yellow or black, algae is slimy in texture.

Alkalinity: How alkaline is measured in spa water, i.e. above 7.0 pH.

Alum: Aluminum sulfate, commonly called floc, is used to help clarify water.

Calcium Chloride: Added to raise calcium hardness.

Calcium Hardness: A measure of the level of calcium salts in the water. Helps determine how scaling or corrosive the water is.

Chlorinator: A canister which releases chlorine or bromine into the water as they dissolve.

Chlorine: A sanitizer and an oxidizer. As a sanitizier, kills bacteria; as an oxidizer burns off organic matter and kills algae.

Clarifier: Chemical used to remove haze from water. Particular matter in suspension needs to clump to be filtered or vacuumed out.

Disinfectant: A chemical that kills bacteria and deodorizes.

Filter: A porous, fibrous material in cylinder form that’s called an element. It allows water to pass through while it collects particles, organic matter, oils, lotions and foreign debris that accumulates in spa water. 

Filter Cycle: A programmed period of time the spa filters water each day. 

Humidity: In excess is associated with mildew, especially on indoor hot tubs where moisture tends to be trapped in the hot tub room.

Hydrogen Peroxide: A non-chlorine oxidizer used with biguanide systems.

Ionizer: A device that generates copper and/or zinc and/or silver ions to kill bacteria and algae.

Jets: The openings through which water flows into the hot tub. Jets affect the direction, volume and velocity of water.

Oxidizer: Chemical that burns up organic matter.

Pump: Moves water through the filter and heater system and back into the spa.  

Sanitizer: A chemical used to kill bacteria. Usual generic names are bromine, biguanide and chlorine. Calcium, lithium, and sodium hypochlorite are some options.

Shock: The action of adding a chemical known as an oxidizer to spa water to gas-off organic wastes which cause cloudiness and algae.

Skimmer: A box-like compartment in the spa through which debris, oily film and contaminants flow into the filter when the pump is on.

Strainer: A basket in some spa pumps that collects debris which could restrict water flow.

Chemical Balancing Products For Your Spa

Spa Factory Seconds and Spa-Rite Bayswater can offer you and you family all that you will need in the way of chemicals for your spa. Currently, we have four important chemicals that will assist in the chemical balancing of your spa, keeping it clean, clear and safe all year round. These include:

PQ Spa Sanitiser

2 Kg Lithium Hypochlorite

Lithium Hypochlorite is a much cleaner type of chlorine and is used to sanitise your spa. This product will help  to control the algae and bacteria in spas which will improve your water balance, keeping your spa model in it’s best condition.

The Natural Spa Purifier

Nature 2 stick 10g/kg SILVER(Ag) present as metal

Nature 2 sticks are used instead of the old Bromine system. The nature 2 stick is an all natural purifier that reduces the amount of time spent maintaining your spa. The nature 2 stick sits in your filters and lasts an amazing 4 months! It works better and improves your water, nature 2 water is brilliantly clear and soft.

PQ pH and Alkalinity Decreaser

750 grams Sodium Bisulphate

Lowers pH and total Alkalinity in your spa’s water. It is a safer alternative to use than liquid acid. This product is designed for lowering pH and total Alkalinity Stabile Strength. It is completely safe and will not harm you or your spa in any way.

PQ Spa pH and Alkalinity Increaser

1 Kg Sodium Bicarbonate

Increases pH and Total Alkalinity in your spa. This product serves as a pH buffer. The results will give you better water quality and an increase in the pH.

Cover Lifters For Your Spa

One of the ‘musts’ when purchasing a spa is buying a hard cover, to keep the water clean, warm and protect the model itself. However, although these covers are generally lightweight, they can be cumbersome and difficult to manoeuvre  by one’s self! A great way of keeping you and your family safe around a spa is by purchasing a set of Smart Steps. Spa Factory Seconds and Spa-Rite can offer you a large variety of steps to suit your environment and spa perfectly. Steps are great for anyone, at any age – helping young ones get out of the spa and reducing the chances of slipping.

Our Smart Steps are available in one handy size (600W x 300D x 240H), providing the perfect solution for any situation. If you want steps that can be easily hidden away, that is no problem. The steps that we carry are produced in a diverse variety of colours including shades of coastal grey, moroccan brown, redwood  and timber.

What About The Spa Water?

If you require water to be brought to your home for your new spa or swim spa, Spa Factory Seconds can help you out. Our truck can deliver up to 3000 litres of water per load, a simple solution for you and your family to make the most of your spa this summer. At these measurements, it will be simple for you to establish how much water you will require:

Standard Spa:
2000mm x 2000m m x 850 mm = up to 1200 litres of water

Standard Spa:
2300mm x 2300m m x 850 mm = up to 1500 litres of water

Standard Spa:
2300mm x 3000m m x 850 mm = up to 1900 litres of water

Standard Spa:
3500mm x 2300mm x 980mm = up to 2500 litres of water

Standard Swim Spa:
4300mm x 2300mm x 1320 mm = 6000 litres of water

Standard Large  Swim Spa:
5800mm x 2300mm x 1320mm = up to 8150 litres of water

In general, it is best if you can contact our friendly team at least 2-3 days prior to delivery. We are readily able to cover all of the Melbourne metro area, country regions  or interstate and can service the majority of homes with no difficulty. Please let us know if your home has any special requirements.

The water we use for filling your spa is rain water from the roof of our warehouse, or occasionally spring water in bulk. Water for a standard spa up to 2000 litres with delivery of a Spa-Rite or Spa Factory Seconds spa is $200. Delivery of water on its own, up to 3000 litres, is $300 per load in Melbourne metro area.
